Langdon Drops 'The AUG Ep'

In the spirit of Christmas, Langdon Auger spoiled his fans this past weekend by posting a free download of his new album, 'The AUG Ep' on his website.

In this highly-anticipated follow-up to 'Inaugeration' (2008), Langdon demonstrates his exemplary production skills with catchy beats featuring a wide variety of musical styles and influences. The lyrics are somewhat reminiscent of Langdon's early work (albums such as 'Songs From The Hills' and 'Crisp Livin'), as Langdon combines humour, wit and visual references to Victoria to create highly original lyrics which make you proud to live in Victoria. Some personal favourites from 'The AUG Ep' are "The Aug Freestyle", "The Drive Through" and "Grizzly Bears."

So, if you haven't already done so, I highly recommend that you check out this holiday treat. And if you like what you hear, keep your eyes and ears open because word on the 'book is that Langdon plans to do some shows early in the new year.

10 Years of Trailer Park Boys

Yes kids, its been 10 years since the boys debut on Canadian television. The show actually didn't start until 2001, but in '99 they release a made for TV movie which basically explained the Trailer Park Boys basics, kinda like a low-budget version of the first movie. I've been a huge fan of these dudes and think they are genius' for coming up with such a simple concept for a TV show with such a low-budget and succeeding enormously. Even though these guys probably wont be able to expand their acting careers with new characters, they should be damn proud of their accomplishments. With 7 seasons, a Christmas special, and 2 major movies under their belt, (one which was just released on DVD today) the crew will never be able to walk down any streets in Canada without being recognized. From Lahey's drinking binges and Randy's cheeseburger eating gut to Bubbles obsession with kitties and Ricky's Rickyisms. The show has kept us entertained for years and with that being said I crown Trailer Park Boys the title of Canadian comedy legends! I would seriously place them next to Kids in the Hall and SCTV for the greatest Canadian shows of all time...oh wait...and Degrassi..Har har!! Here's a short film that started it all....

The worst fucking song ever.

Well Cake fans, I have been keeping my ears open just for you guys in hopes of finding the worst song ever! And I am unhappy to say that I have finally found just that. Luckily for us it comes with a video that is equally as horrendous as the song. The artist is former pro-skateboarder turned auto-tune ear rapist, Jereme Rogers. Now Jereme was actually a incredible skateboarder during his career. In 2005 he was named Transworld's Rookie of the Year. In 2006 he placed 2nd overall in Skate Park at the Dew Tour, and in 2007 he placed 2nd in the Tampa Pro for street and best trick. Jereme has now 'retired' from skateboarding to pursue his 'musical' passion with...as you can see... no success.

With that being said this video/song may cause you to savagely rip your own ears off, sharpen them to dull points and use them to gauge your own eyes out. I realize that auto-tuned music is very popular right now but I think even an auto-tune fan will tell you that six minutes of this guy mumbling primary school raps over a beat that was surely made by accident is taking this exaggerated fad way too far.

I wish nothing but bad things for this person.
I'm not even going to comment on his treble clef tear drop tattoo either....god I hate this guy.

P.S
Just watched the video from 'Prom Queen' on Much Music (#5 hottest hip hop video)

Woah hold up...

Today I was checkin out the new trailers for upcoming movies, when I came across a trailer called Death At A Funeral starring Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence. The name seemed familiar, so I thought a little harder and remembered that I had seen a film, I think it was earlier this year, with that exact same title. So I watched this "new" trailer and to my surprise IT WAS THE EXACT SAME MOVIE, but with an all American cast (where the original had all English people in it). What is that? I liked it, it was pretty funny....But twice? With different actors?...Yeahhh, I don't know...Oh wait, actually the little person is the same dude in both movies. Which I think is even weirder. I wonder which movie he liked more? Or which set had better food?.. too many questions. But for real though, remaking a film within 2 years. I guess they just sat back and looked at all the rest of the English shows that they have ripped off and had made money from and thought "Hm, I'm lazy and uncreative, lets steal this movie and put and bunch of famous people in it and make it American"...fffffshhhhhhhhchhh bull shit...Respect Frank Oz

PTA Announces New Film In The Works

Detail director Paul Thomas Anderson has released an article stating that he will be working on his 6th feature film. Anderson, whose past films include Sydney, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love and the most recent There Will Be Blood, has informed the media that his new plot line will feature a man (played by Phillip Seymour Hoffman) that has created his own cult-like religion.

In his past work, his main characters usually start on a good note but slowly self-destruct throughout the film, a trait that many directors have used to create more of an 'un-hollywood' appeal (i.e Sir Martin Scorsese the great and creator of geniusness). I would strongly recommend that you take that statement as a warning before entering the movie theatre to see this film, or any of his work for that matter. I have met many people who have hated all of his films for that reason, the crossing of the fingers for a happy ending. I, myself, find those types of films to be very lame and predictable. To leave an ending ambiguous and questionable gives people something to think and talk about. Even if you dislike it because it doesn't have closure or make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, it allows each person to interpret their own messages from the film, and to me that is quality.

Paul Thomas Anderson pays an immense amount of attention to the detail of his work. He gives his films a distinct atmosphere by using all aspects of film; cinematography, sound, score, script, casting... you get the idea. Apparently PTA watched The Treasure Of Sierra Leone every night before filming There Will Be Blood, thus showing what distant measures he took to create an over powering and realistic environment. Anyway, I think I'm talking too much and you're probably getting bored of this, but my point is, this should be a kick ass movie and I say you should be stoked about it and if you disagree with me then go see Twilight you piece of work...yeah I said it...shazam...also if you are desperately in need of a good movie, check this list that imdb.com put up, and if you've seen all those then try here.

p.s. you're spoiled.

New Shad Video

Shad has recently posted a new video on his blog featuring Louwop and Zaki Ibrahim. If you are unfamiliar with Shad, he is one of Canada's great hip hop lyrical masters. He has released two solid albums to this date, When This Is Over and The Old Prince. You can pick up 'The Old Prince' at almost any music store and can download 'When This Is Over' off of iTunes (I highly recommend you pick up both). Shad has showed up a couple of times in Victoria and has knocked the doors down. I would say one of the best live hip hop shows I've seen in some time. From his freestyling to covering the Fugees 'Mona Lisa', to busting out his acoustic guitar, it is completely worth the admission. So next time you see the word Shad on any poster downtown you best get your ass out there because it is something you don't want to miss. p.s check out the new playlist on the right, there's a Shad song on there...beeeyyyaaaauum

Thunderheist Takes Victoria by Storm

Toronto's electro-fueled hip-hop duo, Thunderheist had a solid finish to their U.S-Canadian tour last weekend by playing a sold-out show at Sugar Nightclub in Victoria on Saturday, November 21st. The group combines heavy baselines created by the highly versatile producer, GrahmZilla with the clever rhyming of Nigerian-born, Toronto-raised M.C Isis who has been "freestyling with 30 year old men since [she] was 13." The result is a highly original sound that is both energizing and absorbing.

To see some of my videos from the show at Sugar, (which I did not post because of inferior sound and video quality) hit up my youtube page. To see and hear more of Thunderheist, check out their myspace page or youtube, where you can listen to many of their songs, including the popular single, "Jerk it" which was featured in the Oscar-nominated film, 'The Wrestler.'

New music from the Blak Roc project!

"On the vista" is the newest track from the Blak Roc Project (Dame Dash and The Black Keys)
11 tracks of this sounds good to me, stoked to hear the rest of it.

Double Down Chicken Sandwich

The KFC "Double Down Chicken Sandwich" is definitely something. No bun, Two pieces of  chicken with cheese and bacon.... I think I just had a heart attack.  The Vancouver Sun  did their own story with guesstiations at how many calories this thing had (1228.) KFC ran another contrary to what they had reported.
"But if our figures hold true, and KFC won't confirm they don't, the Double Down is more caloriffic than the Wendy's Triple with Everything and Cheese (1700 mg sodium, 960 calories, 26 gms of fat), the Burger King Stacker Quad (1770 sodium, 1020 calories, 69 gms of fat), and compares closely to the fat, salt and calorie totals of three McDonalds Big Macs put together (3060 sodium, 1620 calories, 87 gms fat)."

Either way, this thing cost $6.99 so its way out of my price range.

And the real photo...

Psalm One Wins "Sound Off" Competition

Englewood native, Psalm One was recently pronounced the grand prize winner of the 'Chicago Public Library Sound Off Music Contest' with her entry, "My Bucket Song", which can be heard above. As you can hear, this catchy and upbeat tribute to Chicago was determined the winner out of 40 entries for it's creativity, quality of performance and original expression. What is especially noteworthy about the song is Psalm's collaboration with Kaotic Drumline, a young percussion group and youth outreach project from Chicago’s south side which aims to get kids off the street and and keep them focused on making something positive out of their lives.

Winning 'Sound Off' landed Psalm One the opportunity to headline the CHIPPUBLIB Sound Off concert, which was held on October 22nd at downtown Chicago's Prtizker Park. Despite chilling temperatures and torrential downpour, many fans, supporters and bargain-hunters showed up for the free event and showed their love for the windy city.

The 'Sound Off' concert grew out of the Chicago Public Library’s new “Not what you think” marketing campaign, which is aimed at getting more 20- and 30-somethings involved with the library by offering free music downloads, movies and Wi-Fi and by holding art and music contests, exhibitions and performances.

MMMovie Review : Paranormal Activity

This Blair Witch, hand-held camera style, independent film was made about 2 years ago until come across by Steven Spielberg. He watched the film and apparently had to turn it off half way due to its creepiness. I recently got the chance to have a sit down and watch this hyped new-age horror and found it very realistic. The acting wasn't the greatest but if you have the mentality to look past that, it's quite chilling. The film is about a couple who live in a small duplex-style house. The woman in the movie has been haunted by a ghost her entire life, so her boyfriend decides to purchase a video camera (hence the movie footage) to record any paranormal activity;). So the movie kinda picks up from there. I would strongly suggest seeing it before it leaves the theatres, so hurry, get on your horse, and watch this movie~! ****

Chin Chin

Chin Chin, one of the newest members of the Def Jux family is a disco inspired, funk fueled trip back to an era I never knew but wish I had. Def Jux is an independent Hip Hop label. Bringing a group like Chin Chin on board seems strange but with additions like Dizzee Rascal, they are branching out in new directions and making some solid choices.

K-OS Defends Drake

K-OS recently announced over both Facebook and Twitter that he will be releasing a song with Drake later this week. While some of his fans shared his excitement over the release, many fans were not ashamed to hide their disappointment or even disgust by making direct comments to K-OS like, "WHAT!!.....why would you collab with him?", "FUCK DRAKE....K-OS DON'T DO IT" and "He is NOT that dope of an emcee - he's Wheelchair Jimmy..."

Shortly after the comments were made, K-OS came to Drake's defense by posting a song in which Drake collaborates with Saukrates and said, "Not an M.C? Not everyone is on the same page of what an M.C is or isn't. Oh well. LISTEN."
I guess K-OS is hearing something out of Drake that the rest of us aren't.

I'm going to cancel my gym membership because I'm gunna be tight bodied over this game. The playlist includes the presence of Cypress Hill, Aceyalone, Evidence, Jurrasic 5, KRS-One, The Beastie Boys, and of course David Bowie plus many many more..I'm effin stoked for this. Marge Simpson for Playboy?

The November issue of Playboy hits the racks with the first cartoon character to grace the cover. In overall circulation figures, Playboy is down 9% from last year. The Marge Simpson cover is clearly a desperate attempt at gaining attention of their twenty-something audience, whom they lost to internet porn. Although, as a member of this demographic... I think its kind of creepy.

Accident? I think not.

Okay, there really are some awesome videos on Fail Blog that I highly suggest you check out daily, but I just had to put this video because there are so many funny elements to it!! Obviously, the bizarre way the video starts and the boing sounds are priceless, but the best part is how the buddy so obviously scoots right over to purposely trip the girl!
I feel bad for her but really, what the hell was she thinking- "I'll just run over and squat on the dog's head and run away?" That was probably the most action she's gotten in months.

its true..

The Lupe Fiasco Experience

Lupe Fiasco's new song "Fire" has some definite heat. Jimi Hendrix sample is sped up to a nice Hip Hop tempo and Lupe spits a raw and gritty flow over this legend's classic sound. Although the sound might be a shocker for your average bass, snare and hand clap fan, Lupe proves hes worthy of a classic rock sample of this caliber.

Apparently he turned himself in after failing to pay taxes for the past four years. In total he owes...$32,799, not including fees and could face four years in jail. Lets hope this doesn't affect his new and fifth solo album due out this year called "Crystal Method." - Tical

Death To Autotune

A follow-up to Jay-Z's D.O.A.(death of auto-tune) , auto-tune extraordinare T-Pain has released an apology song. It's really quite sad, until he talks about spreadin girls bitchasses and fuckin model hoes sideways like an s-curl. But anyway its an apology song so I guess hes pretty offended; we gotta have some sympathy for the guy(uhm right?)...its kinda funny tho, because Jay-Z is beefin T-pain and T-pain apologizes...yeah I don't know whats gunna happen next but I think T-Pain should auto-tune his life.. whatever that means... - For Your Health!

I fucking love super groups!

The Black Keys aren't new to working with rappers (gza) but being a two-man garage blues outfit, it seems weird...until you hear it. Their new project 'Blackroc' features such rappers as Mos Def, Q-Tip, Raekwon and from beyond the grave Ol' Dirty Bastard. Damon Dash produced this gem and will be releasing it on a new label launched with the management of the Black Keys. The new album will also feature cameos by, RZA, Ludacris, Pharoahe Monch, NOE, R&B singer Nicole Wray and MOP's Billy Danze. The first single 'Hoochie Coo' is streaming online now.

Distant Relatives

'As we enter' may only be an annoyingly short one minute and three seconds long but its a perfect promotional snippet for Distant Relatives. The up coming, delayed, pushed back collaboration album from Nas and Damien Marley. Although there is no official release date fans who attended the Rock the Bells festival received a small preview of a few songs. 'Only the strong' stands out as an anthem for their project.
